To register for your own key for Santander Cycles, you need to:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Purchase bike access (24 hours or yearly)
  • Have a UK postal address which matches your billing address
  • Agree to the terms and conditions of Santander Cycles which include fees for non-returned and damaged cycles

  • Minimum of 8 characters. Your password should contain upper and lower case letters and at least one number.

Billing preferences


  • If you have chosen yearly bike access, we will generate your bill on this date each month for all of the chargeable items (e.g. journeys) made in the previous month. The money will be requested from your bank on this date but may appear on your bank statement a few days later. You can check the details of your chargeable items by inserting your key into the roadside terminal and selecting the option to view your journey history or by looking at your activity log once your account is opened.

    You do not need to choose a billing date if your bike access period is 24 hours, as your bill will be generated at the end of the bike access period.

Privacy Notice

Transport for London (TfL), its subsidiaries and service providers, will use your personal information for the purposes of customer services and administration of Santander Cycles, the provision of travel related information, customer research and fraud prevention. Your personal information will be properly safeguarded and processed in accordance with the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998.

Information obtained by the police about non-compliance with the Santander Cycles terms and conditions, any applicable laws and/or the Santander Cycles tips for safer cycling, while you or an Additional User are using a Cycle may be disclosed to TfL and used by TfL to suspend or exclude you or an Additional User from using Santander Cycles.

In the event that you make a claim under the scheme's Public Liability Insurance Policy, TfL may disclose relevant information if requested to do so by the insurance provider for the purpose of verifying and processing your claim. In certain circumstances, TfL may also share your personal information with the police and other law enforcement agencies for the purposes of the prevention or detection of crime.
